Impositions, Edition 1

Intaglio Photo-Etching
Monotype Series of 10
Edition 1

In this project, I have appropriated photographs of my ancestors, exploring Ukrainian-Canadian identity. Imposed borders, governmental and economical structures of the former Soviet Union. Bruises fade to floral motifs representing resilience allowing traditions to continue. Braids stand for stories, both remembered and lost. I want to bring the Ukrainian holocaust, Holodomor, to light, as it was in the dark for so long. As a Ukrainian-Canadian I seek to carry on the traditions, stories and resilience fought for by my ancestors. If I allow this to be lost, their battle is forfeit.
